The measurement instrument SML 664 to investigate into the blocking characteristics of power semiconductors.
The device is designed for manual use as well as for integration in an automated measuring system. Manual use is only available when the device is not connected to a host system via serial interface.
The SML 664 offers two operating modes:
- Blocking voltage measurement: The test voltage will be increased until either the maximum output current (10 μA to 300 mA) or the maximum adjusted voltage (10 to 8,000 V) is reached and is kept stable for the rest of the measurement time.
- Reverse current measurement: The current through the specimen at nominal voltage is measured. Thereby the current is limited to the adjusted maximum value (current measurement range). In addition the adjusted voltage is displayed. This is suitable for the case of the adjusted nominal voltage cannot be achieved. A deviation of achieved voltage from nominal voltage leads to an error message.
The design of the power unit of SML 664 requires limiting the output current depending on pulse duration and duty cycle.
